Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how GMOScan ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use gmoscan.com, and our related mobile and web applications, including GMOScan.ai and GMOScan Kids (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
We built GMOScan to help you understand the products you buy. We collect only what we need to provide and improve the Service, and we do not sell your personal information.
Information we collect
- Account information: when you create an account we store your email address and authentication details. We never store your password — sign-in is handled securely by our authentication provider.
- Scans, searches, and reports: the products you scan, search, or analyze, along with any notes, ratings, comments, and photos you choose to attach when sharing to the community feed.
- Photos you upload: images you attach to community comments are stored so we can display them in the Service. We re-encode uploads, which strips embedded metadata (including any location/GPS data).
- Payment information: if you purchase a membership, payments are processed by Stripe. We receive limited billing details (such as your subscription status and tier) but never your full card number.
- Usage and device data: basic operational information such as feature usage, approximate request counts, and error diagnostics used to run and improve the Service.
- On-device storage: some preferences and history are stored on your device so the app works smoothly and, where possible, offline.
How we use your information
- Provide the Service: analyze labels, generate reports, sync your history, and power community features.
- Process memberships and preview entitlements through our payment processor.
- Maintain safety and integrity: enforce rate limits, moderate community content, and prevent abuse.
- Communicate with you: send the account, security, and support messages you request.
- Improve the Service: understand which features are useful and diagnose problems.
How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf, under agreements that limit how they may use it:
- Hosting, database, authentication, and file-storage providers that run the Service infrastructure.
- Stripe, for payment processing and subscription management.
- AI providers that analyze the ingredient text and product details you submit in order to generate reports.
- Email delivery providers for transactional and support messages.
- Community content you share (comments, ratings, and photos) is visible to other eligible members of the feed — please do not upload anything you consider private.
AI-generated analysis
Reports are produced using automated and AI systems based on the information you provide. They are educational and may be incomplete or inaccurate. GMOScan is not a medical device or lab test — always follow product labeling and your healthcare provider for medical decisions.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete saved content at any time, and you may request deletion of your account and associated data. Some records may be retained where required for legal, security, or accounting purposes.
Your rights and choices
- Access, correct, or delete your account information.
- Delete community content you posted, including photos.
- Request a copy of your data where applicable.
- Withdraw consent or close your account at any time.
Children's privacy
The Service is intended for general audiences and is designed to be used by families under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Our companion kids experience (GMOScan Kids) is provisioned and controlled by an adult account holder. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental involvement. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International data transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the Service.
