Not everything you eat has a barcode. Meals & Recipes lets you build any dish from its ingredients — last night's chili, your grandmother's soup, a plate from your favorite restaurant — and see how it actually scores.
Eating out? The same steps work at the table. See Score a restaurant meal.
Create your first meal
- Open GMOScan.ai and tap Meals & Recipes.
- Tap New meal or recipe.
- Give it a title — "Sunday turkey chili" works better than "dinner."
- Add your ingredients, one row at a time. Start typing and pick from the suggestions to get the best match.
- Tap Generate score.
That's it. You'll get a Meal Intelligence Score with a letter grade, the same way a scanned product earns a Food Intelligence Score.
Fill in each ingredient
Every ingredient row can hold as much or as little detail as you have:
- Quantity and unit — grams, ounces, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, milliliters, or pieces.
- Ingredient name — start typing and choose a suggestion for a better match.
- Brand (optional) — helps pin down the exact product you used.
- Organic and Non-GMO — tick these when they apply; they count toward your score.
The more precise your ingredients, the more confident the score. A vague "sauce" tells us far less than "canned crushed tomatoes."
Quick or Full — pick your mode
You don't need to measure everything to get a useful answer.
| Mode | Use it when | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Quick | You know what's in it, not exactly how much | Typical portion sizes are estimated for you; the score is marked provisional |
| Full | You have real amounts (at least one) | Your actual quantities drive the nutrition math |
Start with Quick to get a feel for a dish, then switch to Full and regenerate when you want the sharpest read.
Add photos
Attach up to two photos — the finished plate, or a snapshot of a package you cooked with. They show up on the meal and on any link you share.
Edit and regenerate anytime
Recipes change. Open a saved meal, tap Edit, adjust ingredients or amounts, and Regenerate score to see the new result. Swapping one ingredient is often enough to move a grade.
Your meals stay yours
Saved meals live in your own private meal library, separate from your scan history. Nothing is shared until you choose to share it.
Creating and scoring meals is free for anyone signed in to GMOScan.ai.
